Hi BNI Social Set,
Please find the interactive Google Earth map of Strawberry Hill: site of our upcoming outdoor BNI Social this SATURDAY, SEPT 19 from 1PM – 4PM.
You can move this image around to see the ‘lay of the land’ as is relevant to your anticipated access into GG Park.
Strawberry Hill is at the center of Stow Lake, accessible across the water via two separate foot bridges. These 2 foot bridges are located on opposite ends of the vehicular road that rings the lake. The drive into the road ring that circles Stow Lake is accessible via Martin Luther King Drive (MLK Drive) in TWO WAYS.
(Driving Directions into Park to Lake)
1. Enter GG Park via 19th Avenue (at Lincoln Ave). Turn right on MLK – your first right turn inside GG Park. Continue on that road and make your first left into ONE WAY street going uphill to Stow Lake – there may be a small sign on one side of road with an arrow indicating driveway up to Stow Lake. Stow Lake Drive is one way road going ‘clockwise’ around the Lake. You will pass the BOAT HOUSE and continue to ring around the lake about another 25 yards where you will see a stone foot bridge. This is the closest area to park to where your ultimate destination!
2. Enter GG Park via NINTH AVE. (at Lincoln Ave) in the Inner Sunset district and continue on this road, called MLK Drive and follow it as it slowly loops in a westerly/lefty direction. You will drive by the Arboretum (on your left); Museum area on your right and passing the Japanese Tea Gardens (on your right) Look for the second right turn – a ONE WAY ST. uphill, about 50 yards beyond the Tea Gardens. (There may be a small sign on one side of road with an arrow indicating driveway up to Stow Lake.) Stow Lake Drive is one way road going ‘clockwise’ around the Lake. You will pass the BOAT HOUSE and continue to ring around the lake about another 25 yards where you will see a stone foot bridge. This is the closest area to park to where your ultimate destination!
(There is a two different one way streets intersecting MLK that take you into and out of Strawberry Hill Drive. Be careful not to drive into the wrong one. There may be an arrow at that junction with the drive up or down from lake indicating which direction it flows.)
There is usually plenty of parking on Stow Lake Drive surrounding Stow Lake: try to park as close as you can to this foot bridge (north side of lake?) for shortest walk to party location.
(Walking Directions from Eastern foot bridge at Lake)
Cross the bridge where you will then have two choices:
1. Walk up the set of wood stairs located directly across the bridge – the fastest but steepest way up the hill. (About a 5 minute walk)
OR
2. Walk to your right and follow the dirt foot path that more gradually wraps up the hill. (About a 10 – 15 min walk)
Next: Either option will place you at a landing just below the top of the hill where you will see a fenced -in reservoir. You are not there yet!
Walk up the hill – fastest and steepest path is on your left. Or walk counterclockwise to your right the short distance/rest of the way up to the TOP.’
FINAL STOP!
We will be in the ROCK-RINGED area at the very top of hill. The top of the hill is one wide flat space so it will be easy to see us no matter the direction you take up the hill.
(Walking Directions via main pedestrian pathway)
This pathway comes of MLK Drive, just 20 feet beyond the corner location of Japanese Tea Gardens on same side of road.
Take pathway going right and follow it up cement staircase ((at rear of Tea Gardens). This places you at the beginning of Stow Lake. Follow the sidewalk that rings the lake to your right (counterclockwise) until you come to a foot bridge on your left. Cross here and follow same directions above.
If none of this makes sense, please call me. I will also have my cell phone (310-4344 or Colleen: 420-0210) , should you require a trail of verbal bread crumbs to guide you.
If you are still with us (!), you will be rewarded with an unusual beautiful spot in the park with quite a view. The Social gameplan is to have badmitton on hand for the fitness folks. Food and beverage for all! Bring water for your dog. Bring beverage: chilled wine, beer, water for yourself and fellow members. (I will bring cups.) Wear appropriate clothing and foot wear and bring an extra sweatshirt or sweater as it may get cooler in the p.m.
There is a pretty acceptable public bathroom located in the Boat House that you drove by on your way around the lake. That is about a 10 minute walk from top of hill.
IF you have not already indicated what you are bringing, please email so we have an idea of what we may need to ‘fill in’
THANKS
Best,
Cathy
