Recollections & Antidotes of a Grand Sign Dame

“Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign designer Betty Willis remembers when Las Vegas was a few blocks wide with few signs. Created in 1959 “The Little Sign That Could” has appeared in movies on TV and all types of publications. It is the back drop for “Wheel of Fortune”.

Grade school kids made an image of the sign out of 10,000 Lego blocks. Soldiers stationed in Kuwait made a full scale plywood replica of the sign to remind them of home. The back of the sign reads: “Drive Safely & Come Back”.

Betty says, “the sign business has always attracted very talented & interesting people” Betty is 81 years old now and retired. To view the famous Las Vegas sign go to: http://en.wikpedia.org/wiki/Welcome_to_Fabulous_Las_Vegas
