According to eyewitness reports in the New York Daily News a boy fell two stories from a Harlem apartment building and bounced off a storefront awning and then landed on the sidewalk below with only a few cuts and bruises.

While this awning tale describes amazing awning capabilities, your typical awning is designed to serve several other functions such as shade, shelter, brand identifcation and helps its owners deliver a marketing message.
